Note. The Suydans were a distinguished family of Dutch descent. In the "Old Graveyard beside the state road from Cambridge to North Hoosicks, N. Y., across the fields, a few rods distant and on another road, a small graveyard contains stones to "Peter Von Surdan,
d. Aug. 23, 1801, in his 78th year."

(b. 1760)Rev. Joseph Maltby may have been born at Salisbury, Connecticut. Cynthia (7) Maltby wrote: "March 10, 1908": "I remember my grandfather Rev. Joseph Maltby very well, he was a Baptish minister and preached in our town, South Rutland, N.Y.
I have seen my Uncle Chandler. There was an Uncle Grove Maltby, he died before I knew much about them.
He had a daughter who mar. a man from our town and they came to visit me, but she died soon after. They lived near Rochester,N.Y., near Uncle Chandler." (Note. These "Uncles" were really great-uncles).
He was of Watertown, New York, He died July 11, 1845.
Mrs. E. H. Potter writes: "Joseph died some time during the early part of 1846, with his second wife, I think her name was Fields or Thomas. The two families were mixed in some way."
Monroe (7) Maltby wrote" "Joseph's first wife was a Dutch woman, his second wife was Widow Fields." (Note. Possibly her maiden name was Thomas).
Mrs. Potter continues: "They lived near Watertown, in later years. My mother, Lois (6), was born in Lockport, N.Y. and afterwards lived in Broome County. He preached, died and buried at Tyler-- ville, town of Rutland, N. Y."

Hannah Hosmer, wife of William (1) Maltby was sister of Stephen Hosmer, who was great, great grandfather of the husband of Mary Maltby. Jerusha Hosmer above was grandmother on his mother's side of the family of Grove B. Maltby who furnished many records for this history.
